6 + 1 Trait Writing – Paper Lightning has strong correlations to the writing skills required in six traits writing. For the Ideas and Content Trait, every lesson plan in Paper Lightning can be used. The Voice Trait and Word Choices Trait are supported by over half the lesson plans. Some of the Organization Trait and Sentence Fluency Trait are supported by prewriting activities in this book.
Scaffolded Writing – With minor modifications, most of the essay writing lesson plans are appropriate for use anywhere along the continuum of shared writing to independent writing. The lesson plans and activities give student writers the needed writing skills to give them confidence as they move toward independence in their own essay writing.
